CLUB COMPETITIONS The Southland clubs’ croquet. competition matches were begun in fine weather. The Gore Club’s A team visited Invercargill and beat Southland A and at Gore the Southend junior team beat the Gore juniors. • FLEMING SHIELD In the Fleming Shield competition Gore A beat Southland A by five games to four.' The detailed scores, with Gore names first mentioned, are as follows: — Doubles.—Mesdames G. McLeod and A. B. Caverhill beat Mesdames Thomson and Williamson, 26-24; Mesdames A. T. Pettigrew and J. Brown lost to Mesdames Parfitt and McKeever, 20-26; Mesdames J. Ritchie and F. Parsons lost to Mrs Strang and Miss Manson, 18-26. Singles.—Mrs McLeod beat Mrs Thomson, 26-8; Mrs Caverhill lost to Mrs Williamson, 9-26; Mrs Pettigrew lost to Mrs McKeever, 17-26; Mrs Brown beat Mrs Parfitt, 26-18; Mrs Ritchie beat Mrs Strang, 26-23; Mrs Parsons beat Miss Manson, 26-15. ROSE BOWL The Southend junior team was too strong for the Gore junior side in the Rose Bowl competition and won by five games to three.
