LONG SERVICE TO ROWING

SECRETARY OF NEW ZEALAND BODY RETIREMENT AFTER 32 YEARS (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 27. Tributes were paid at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association today to the work of Mr A. D. Bayfield, of Wellington, who, after 32 years’ service, has retired for business reasons from the position of secretary , K .... Mr A. M. Hale (Marlborough) said it required enthusiasm of the highest order to produce year after year such a comprehensive annual report as Mr Bayfield did. In addition, he was always willing to supply information which-would assist the council. Other members expressed gratification that Mr Bayfield had retained his seat on the council. It was decided to place on record appreciation of his work for rowing during his 32 years as secretary. “I can assure you that my interest in the association and in the sport of amateur rowing will not cease,” said Mr Bayfield. When he took over the position he little thought it would be for 32 years, but as he looked back he thought it had been time very well spent. , Mr Bayfield thanked the officers of the council and members of the association and oarsmen throughout the Dominion for the assistance given him in his work. Congratulating his successor, Mr T. M. Hinkley, of Wellington, on his appointment, Mr . Bayfield said' the association had obtained an excellent man.
