Well Related
Oasis, who is trained in South Canterbury, and engaged to race at the Invercargill meeting on Saturday, is a half-brother to Aqua Bond, Nell Grattan and Rocks Ahead. Oasis was one of the first of Adioo Guy’s stock to race, but he has taken seme time to show his best, although his efforts have not always been attended with the best of luck.
New Trotting Track The new track laid down by the Invercargill Trotting Club on the Southland Racing Club’s property will be in use for the first time at the spring meeting of the club on Saturday. Actually .the new track only extends from the. five-furlong post along the back to the distance post on the straight It is a big improvement on the old track as a field is not required to race into the dip at the far turn and a much better view of a race will be obtained. The distance of the track is a mile and three chains and a-half, the straight being just on a furlong.
Jack Bond’s Appearance More than ordinary interest will be shown in the first appearance of the three-year-old, Jack Bond, at Invercargill tomorrow. The Worthy Bond gelding, who is engaged in the Winton Juvenile Stakes, to be run in December may not be sufficiently forward to see out a mile and a-half, but the race will assist him in his preparation for the classic event. Jack Bond has been taken along quietly by J. McLennan and the youngster has done everything right in his work. Starter’s Work
A good many horses failed to go away pacing or trotting at Oamaru on Monday, but in no case could this be attributed to the club’s new starter, Mr T. Marshall, of Invercargill, states The Timaru Herald. Not once was he detected pulling the trigger when a horse was sideways on or facing the wrong way, and most of the despatches were made without undue delay.
Still Working Although De Soto is regarded as an unlikely starter in the Trotting Cup, his soreness has not prevented him from doing a useful amount of work on the Addington tracks.
Sentiment The Trial Handicap winner at Oamaru turned up in Sentiment, a four-year-old gelding by Maxepin from Romantic, one of the most attractivelybred mares in the Stud Book. Romantic was got by Woodland Whispers-Oro Fino, by Copa de Oro-Merry Bell, by Ha Ha-Silver Belle, by Blackwood Abdallah. Woodland Whispers was got by Wildwood-Balmy Breeze, by Re-wind-Miss Poole, by Blackwood Abdallah. Copa de Oro took a record of Imin 59sec and is the sire of Rey de Oro.
