CANDIDATE’S SECOND SUCCESS

BY-ELECTION IN NEW SOUTH WALES (Received September 25, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, September 25. The by-election in Gordon resulted in the return of Mr H. B. Turner, who polled 11,489 votes, giving him a majority of 3634 over his opponent, Mr W. C. Milne.

On August 26 Mr Justice Maxwell, in the Court of Disputed Returns, granted the petition of Mr Milne to have the polling in Gordon in the last state election declared void on the ground of irregularities in the postal votes. Mr Turner, who had been declared elected by a majority of nine votes, and Mr Milne again contested the by-election as United Australia Party candidates.
