CHIEF OF AIR STAFF

GROUP-CAPTAIN COCHRANE TO RELINQUISH POST (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, September 26. When Group-Captain the Hon. R. A. Cochrane, Chief of the Air Staff, relinquishes his position next January, he will be succeeded by Wing-Com-mander H. W. L. Saunders, M.C., D.F.C, M.M. This announcement was made by the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) during an address at St. Kilda tonight. The Minister said that Wing-Com-mander Saunders would come to New

Zealand possibly for two years and he hoped that when the Government’s plan for the development of the Air Force was completed it would be possible for a New Zealander to be sufficiently trained to take over the position of Chief of the Air Staff.
