CHINESE RESISTANCE HOLDS
REINFORCEMENTS LAND AT TIENTSIN HANKOW, September 11. The Japanese who are carrying out the drive towards Kiukiang heavily shelled and stormed Sikuling, which changed hands twice; remaining in Chinese possession, says a message from Hankow. Strong Chinese lines elsewhere are impeding the Japanese advance. The Japanese claim to have dislodged after trying for four weeks, five Chinese divisions from their strategic positions on the hills west of Juichang. Eighty thousand reinforcements have arrived at Tientsin from Japan, according to a report from Peiping.
