SHEARERS’ AWARD IN AUSTRALIA
“PASTORAL INDUSTRY IN DIFFICULT TIMES”
(Received September 9, 10.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, September 9. In the Federal' Arbitration Court Chief Judge Dethridge today delivered judgment on. a claim for increases in the wages for shed hands and cooks and a reduction of hours from 52 to 48 a week for station hands. Hand shearers were granted 1/- a 100 over the rate provided for machine shearers, who will continue to receive the existing wage of 35/- a 100. Chief Judge Dethridge said the pastoral industry was passing through difficult times caused by drought, the disturbed overseas conditions and wool substitutes.
