BIG NUMBER LEAVES BY TRAIN HEAVY BOOKINGS ON FIVE SPECIALS Two trains, one with 17 cars and the other with 10, left Invercargill laist evening with passengers for Dunedin. The passengers formed part, of the “invasion” for the Ranfurly Shield match between Otago and Southland today. Stops were made to pick, up passengers at the stations between Invercargill and Gore and it is estimated that there were about 540 passengers in the first train and 250 in the second. The bookings were much heavier than had been expected, and more than 1100 tickets were sold last evening. .By the first train this morning, which will leave at 6.20, between 350 and 400 people will travel from Southland and another 350 will leave by the next train an hour later. About 200 will leave by the eight o’clock train, but passengers from Tuataperc will also join this train. The train from Tapanui will connect at Waipahi with the 6.20 a.m. train from InyercargiE and the Lumsden branch train will meet the 7.20 Invercargill special at Gore. It is expected that the total number

of passengers travelling by rail including those from Tapanui, Lumsden and Tuatapere, will be between 2000 and 3000. CROWD OF 30,000 IS EXPECTED FINE WEATHER AND GOOD GROUND LIKELY" (Special to The Times) DUNEDIN, September 9. The weather is fine and clear in Dunedin tonight and there should be a fine day tomorrow for the Ranfurly Shield match between Otago . and Southland. The ground will be in excellent order.-. There is a big crowd in the city tonight and all the leading hotels are full. It 5s expected that the attendance at the match will be about 30,000. The general opinion is that the contest will be a keen one.
