DATE OF POLLING DAY

ANNOUNCEMENT NEXT WEEK EXPECTED x MR SAVAGE ANXIOUS TO GET ELECTION OVER (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, September 9. An indication that the date of . the General Election could not be fixed until towards the close of next week, when it would 'be seen whether the business of Parliament could be finished was given in an interview this evening by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage). Although there was still a good deal of business to conje before Parliament, said Mr Savage, there was nothing „ contentious and the House should be

able to complete its work by Saturday week with ease. It depended entirely on the members themselves and most of them seemed anxious to get away. The belief in parliamentary circles is that either October 19 or October 26 will be the date selected for polling day. Mr Savage is anxious to get the election over early.
