LAST MEETING FOR SEASON MAIDEN STAKE WON BY PERFECT LADY Strong-running hares and welltrained dogs made the Southland Coursing Club’s Maiden Stake meeting on Saturday afternoon one of the best of the season. The fact that there were 19 runs and only one kill during the afternoon is a tribute to the excellent manner in which the hares have been trained. The stake was won by Mr C. Brazier’s Perfect Lady, who ran consistently well during the afternoon and won the final on speed from Mr A. L. Smith’s Been. The meeting, which was the hnal one for the season, was well controlled by the club officials. The judge, Mr T. Marshall, gave every satisfaction with his decisions, and the slipper, Mr K. Dickson, also did good work. The results were: FIRST ROUND C. Brazier’s w and bd b Perfect Lady (White Chief-White Dump) beat D. Dahren’s bd and w b Lady s Cara (Discard-Lady Be Ready). Perfect Lady was first to the hare, wrenched twice and killed. Points; 3-0. Marshall Brothers’ w and f b Janet Gaynor (Just Paddy-Muriel) beat Miss Rushton’s b d Quite Sure (White Chief-Miss Dorado). Janet Gaynor opened the scoring with a turn, followed by a wrench. Quite Sure then dived in to secure a turn. Janet Gaynor gained another wrench before the hare escaped. Points, 2-1. J. Creegan’s w and bd b Queen Margaret (White Chief-Miss Dorado) beat W. Dahren’s bk and w d Discard (Win-ooka-Unnamed). Queen Margaret monopolized a lengthy course, Discard securing only two wrenches. Points, 9-1. D. Pemberton’s r d Tracery (Copper-field-Jubilee) beat J. McCash’s bd d Marauder (Bold Brigand-Electric Alma). After an undecided course, Tracery led up and did all the work. Points, 5-0. J. Cournane’s bk d Campbell Black (Achieved Again-Erin’s Pride) beat J. Neilson’s bk d Smart Lad. After a nocourse, Campbell Black led, turned and wrenched to secure an easy win. Points, 2J-0. W. Dickon’s w and bk d Rata (Turn Up-Vonolel) beat W. Kelly’s bd and w d Great Chief (White Chief-Sabot-age). Rata led to the hare and turned. Great Chief then got in and turned and wrenched before the hare escaped. Points, 2-IJ. A. E. Smith’s bk and w d Beon (Peter Pan-Vonolel) beat Miss D. Rushton’s r d Ludo (Lupin-Dorado). Beon led up and turned. Ludo secured a wrench before the hare escaped. Points, 2-j.
SECOND ROUND Perfect Lady beat Janet Gaynor. Perfect Lady led up and opened her score with two points. The winner did the most work and Janet Gaynor secured only one turn before the hare escaped. Points, 4J-1, Queen Margaret beat Tracery.- Queen Margaret led up and an even course followed. Points, 3-2. Rata beat Campbell Black. Rata led up, turned and wrenched. Campbell Black secured a turn and a wrench before the hare reached the escapes. Points, 3J-IJ. Beon ran a bye. SEMI-FINALS Perfect Lady beat Queen Margaret. After an undecided course, Perfect Lady led to the hare and turned. Points, 3-0. Beon beat Rata. Beon did all the work, scoring a turn and a wrench. Points, IJ-0. FINAL Perfect Lady beat Beon. After an undecided course, Perfect Lady won on speed.
