Calves are to be left in well sheltered pens at farm roadside gates where they will be picked up by the carters. A farmer whose property is isolated or situated on a road where it is difficult to handle a lorry, to co-operate with the carter by bringing his calves to some reasonably accessible point mutually agreed upon. IMPORTANT.—Government regulations now control the sale and collection of “Bobby” calves, and farmers should note that no calf must be offered for sale to the Pool unless it has been properly and sufficiently fed daily from birth and also has been fed not earlier than four hours before the time of its actual removal from pen. Any person committing a breach of this regulation is liable to a fine of £5. Copies of the new regulations can be obtained from the carter or on application to this Office. All calves must be tagged with supplier’s name and address. Supplies of tags procurable from carters or Dairy Factories. Fold the tag so that the name and address are on the inside. Pass a string through both holes before tying round the calf’s neck. The Advance Payment to be made will be advertised before the first collecting day. By bringing in their tickets suppliers may receive cash on application to this Office. The Pool is co-operative in every sense as payment is made at a flat rate for all good calves over the whole of the area from which we collect. The Southland system is, we know, favourably commented upon by other interested parts of the Dominion and we would ask all farmers to assist in maintaining this reputation by supplying well nourished calves only.
