McNeil, of Invercargill. Mr W. Falconer, Invercargill, presented the trophies, and associated with him on the platform were Mr C. F. Hunter (president of the society), Mr H. F. Hicks (secretary) and Mr M. C. Rice (assistant secretary). DONORS OF TROPHIES The president extended a welcome on behalf of the society. He also thanked the donors of the trophies, which were a credit to a country show like Wyndham, he said. Mr Falconer thanked the society for the opportunity of being present, and congratulated the society on the progress it had made, and the successful manner in which it ran its shows. To do this a good executive was required, and the Wyndham body was fortunate in this respect. In the secretary, Mr H. F. Hicks, the society had a man who was popular with the public and exhibitors alike and much of the success was because of the manner in which he had carried out his duties during the past 14 years. It was pleasing to know the society had the business people behind it, as was shown by the array of trophies on view and he congratulated the society on having this generous assistance. He was pleased to learn that last year the gate returns had been a record, running into three figures. He was not out to boost any particular breed, as he felt the exhibitors were out to place Southland on the map. second to none, as a stock-breeding province. Mr Falconer reminded the gathering that the Royal Show would be held in Southland in 1939, and he hoped breeders were making the necessary preparations for this. Southland breeders did well the last time the Royal Show was held in Invercargill, and he hoped they would be as successful this time. They looked to country shows such as the Wyndham Show to act as feeders to the metropolitan shows. Mr David Caldwell, on behalf of the society, moved a vote of thanks to Mr Falconer for coming out and making the presentation of trophies, to the donors of the trophies and cash gifts, the former being valued at £lOO and the latter totalling some £l6O a year, to the secretary for his services in making the society the success it was today, and to the public for its generous support. He also wished to thank supporters for the success of the recent stock drive, which had resulted in the sum of £3OO being collected, which would go a long way to liquidating the debt of £6OO at the bank.
