Producers’ prices for prime lamb are steady but the demand has been affected by hot weather. Secondary lamb is easier on heavier supplies. Wethers are firm on short supplies and ewes steady with slow trade. Chilled beef is easier this week on heavier supplies. For New' Zealand porker pigs trade is slow. The market for New Zealand baconer pigs is quiet but unchanged. Very few are available. CLEARING SALE AT MERINO DOWNS GOOD PRICES FOR SHEEP There was a splendid attendance at the clearing sale conducted by The Southland Farmers’ .Co-operative Association, Limited, on account of Mr Duncan Stewart, of Merino Downs, who has disposed of his property. What must be record prices for flock ewes at such a sale were secured and the demand was good throughout. The sheep were in excellent condition and up to 39/2 was secured for four-tooth ewes. Six-tooth sorts brought 36/5, two-tooth 37/-, and four-shear ewes made 30/-. A big line of ewe hoggets were sought after and changed hands at 30/6. The horses forwarded were of good average quality and. there was a good demand for team sorts. Implements and sundries sold at full market rates. Sales were:— Sheep.—One hundred and sixty 2-th ewes at 37/-, 98 4th ewes at 39/2, 246 6-th ewes at . 36/5, 157 4-shear ewes at 30/-, 238 ewe hoggets at 30/6, 15 store lambs at 15/-, 13 f. and f.m. ewes at 15/-, 9 fat wethers at 31/-. Horses.—One syr gelding at £3O, 1 do. at £3B 10/-, 1 Syr mare at £27 10/-, 1 aged mare at £17,1 aged gelding at £l6, 1 7yr gelding at £24 10/-, 1 2yr filly at £23 10/-, 1 lOyr gelding at £l6 10/-, 1 aged gelding at £lO, 1 IJyr filly at £l5, 1 do. at £l6, 1 12yr mare with foal at foot at £5, 1 syr mare at £26, 1 foal at £l3 10/-. , , , x Cattle.—One cow at £5 15/-, 1 do. at £4, 1 aged cow at £4, 1 store steer at £5 5/-, 1 calf at £1 7/6. WINTON HORSE SALE Thirty draught mares and geldings were offered at a horse sale at Winton yesterday conducted by Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd. There was quite a good demand for good horses, which realized from £2O to £2B 10/-. Young unbroken horses sold from £lB to £2O 10/-, but aged horses were hard to quit Top price was £2B 10/for a four -year-old gelding and a five-year-old gelding was passed in at £33. Some of the prices were:—One six-year-old gelding at £l3; one three-year-old gelding £l9; one three-year-old filly at £2l; one four-year-old gelding £2B 10/-; one filly at £18; one filly at £24; one 12-year-old mare at £9; one nine-year-old gelding at £ll 10/-; one four-year-old gelding at £l9; one eight-year-old mare at £l5; one 12-year-old gelding at £5; one 12-year-old gelding at £3 10/-; one three-year-old filly at £23; one 10-year-old mare at £7 10/-. GOOD PRICES AT OTAUTAU The National Mortgage and Agency Co., Ltd., conducted a successful horse sale at Otautau yesterday. Prices for this time of the year were good. Following were some of the lines disposed of:— Horses.—One five-year-old mare at £35, one four-year-old mare at £2O, one nine-year-old mare at £2B, one four-year-old half-draught mare at £l7 10/-, one five-year-old halfdraught mare at £l6, one eight-year-old gelding at £l6, one seven-year-old gelding at £3 5/-, one three-year-old gelding at £25, one three-year-old gelding at £25 10/-, one four-yeai-old gelding at £25, one 10-year-old gelding at £5 and one pony at £5 5/-. Sundries. —Collar and hames at 76/-, saddle and breeching at 10/-, collar’at 5/-, winkers at 4/- and 3/-, hames at 4/-’ trees at 6/-, 5/-, 9/-, 3/-, 8/-, 10/-, 6/- and 8/-, leading chains at 8/-, plough chains at 6/- and 4/-.
