BLUFF BOROUGH COMMITTEES
ABOLITION SOUGHT BY COUNCILLOR
The abolition of the various committees of the Bluff Borough Council was suggested by Cr G. T. Randall at the monthly meeting of the council last evening. Cr Randall moved that standing committees be abolished and that all business be transacted by the full council.
Cr Randall said he could see no reason for business being done by committees. All councillors were entitled to know what was being done in the various departments. The public, he said, would have more confidence in the council if it knew that matters were being discussed in open council. Cr J. Ballantyne said he agreed partly with Cr Randall. He maintained that all the councillors should be members of the Finance Committee. Cr T. F. Doyle said that a few committees were essential. In bigger towns and cities it would be impossible to transact all the business without committees. The Mayor, Mr John Cameron, said that committees were necessary to distribute the work of the council and to lessen the burden on councillors. He was of the opinion that the motion was out of order. There was no further discussion.
