Mr T. Golden was yesterday reelected chairman of the Southland Hospital Board for the next two years. This is his third term of office. The Mayor (Mr John Miller) was congratulated on his appointment to the Southland High Schools’ Board for a period of three years as the City Council’s representative, by members of the board at the annual meeting yesterday. Mr H. F. Larsen, district officer, Department of Industries and Commerce, Dunedin, who has been visiting Invercargill, returned north by the express yesterday afternoon.
Mr H. L. Hay, secretary of the Southland Building and Investment Society, will leave tomorrow on an extended holiday visit to Australia. Mr Hay expects to be away about two months, and will visit Sydney and Brisbane.
A unanimous call from the Presbyterian Church at Dipton has been forwarded by the Southland Presbytery to the Rev. lan R. Polson, M.A., of Sawyers Bay. The ordination and induction are to take place on Thursday of next week. Mr Polson has been entertained at social gatherings at Sawyers Bay and has received several presentations.—Times Special Service. Messrs D. Rutledge and Jbhn Fisher, of Otautau, have left for _ New Plymouth to attend the National Dairy Conference.
Mr R. M. Strang was re-elected chairman of the Southland High Schools’ Board at the annual meeting yesterday. Mr T. S. Dove and Mr T. Gill have been appointed the producers’ representatives on the New Zealand Poultry Board.—Press Association.
Mr J. L. Sutton was re-elected president of the Invercargill Suburban Milkmen’s Association at the annual meeting last night. Mr R. F. Frampton, assistant manager of the Invercargill branch of Briscoe and Company, Ltd., has been appointed manager to succeed Mr H. M. Aitken, who has been appointed manager of the Dunedin branch and supervisor of the South Island branches. Mr Frampton, who has been employed by the firm for 24 "years, assumes his new duties on July 1. Crs G. A. Wraytt and L. A. Niederer, who represented the Southland County Council at a conference in Wellington with the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) returned to Invercargill yesterday. .While in the North Island Crs Wraytt and Niederer visited Auckland and several towns.
Mr W F. Stilwell, S.M. (chairman), Messrs S. H. Craig and R. McG. Stewart (representing the licensed renters), Messrs E. J. Righton and J. Robertson (representing the licensed exhibitors), Mr R. M. G. Butcher (chief inspector under the Act) and Mr F. Johnson (Assistant Secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce) have been appointed members of the advisory committee under the Cinematograph Films Act. The committee will advise the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) on what amendments of the standard form of filmhiring contract are necessary or desirable.—Press Association.
