FIREWORKS EXPLODE ON COUNTER HYSTERICAL WOMEN RUSH FROM EXITS (United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright) (Received May 19, 8.40 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 19. An explosion among fireworks on a counter in G. J. Coles’s- main store in Pitt street during the height of shopping today caused a panic among the crowds in the building. Fire followed the explosion and filled the place with smoke and fumes. Women rushed from exits in Pitt street and King street in a hysterical condition, dropping their goods and personal effects behind them. Some of the girl employees were overcome by the smoke fumes and were conveyed by ambulances to hospital. Others were rescued from the upper floors by ladders. The blaze was subdued before much damage was done to either the contents or the building.
