DEBATING SOCIETY At the weekly meeting of the Woodlands Literary and Debating Society the president, Mr W. Bell, presided over a good attendance. Five new members were welcomed to the society. Arrangements were completed for a debate against the Invercargill branch of the Workers’ Educational Association to be held on May 31. The subject for debate is: “In the event of war is the present defence of New Zealand adequate?” The team to meet the opposition will be Messrs S. Foley, J. Hickey and J. Campbell. A dramatic evening was held. Those taking part were Mesdames C. J. Roseveare, W. Bell, N. Sansom, J. Middlemiss and J. McDonald; Misses D. Sansom and J. Bell and Messrs J. Trotter, A. Campbell, J„ Hickey, E. Tresidder, S. Foley, H. Piercy, L. Middlemiss and A. Roseveare.
