LOCKHEED AIR LINER MISSING

CRASH ON SIDE OF MOUNTAIN FEARED (Received May 18, 10.40 p.m.) LOS ANGELES, May 18. A Lockheed transport aeroplane on its maiden flight, carrying nine persons—including four women and two children—to St. Paul, has been missing for hours. It is believed to have crashed on the side of a mountain. Search patties were compelled to desist because of bad weather. LOCAL FOGS BLAMED FOR MISHAP (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 17. Brown and Dureau, Ltd., New Zealand agents for the Lockheeds, says it has been Advised from America that the aeroplane disappeared in the mountains while on delivery to North-West Air Lines with nine occupants. The message stated that the weather was good at the take-off. and the destination, but that local fogs in the mountains were undoubtedly .the cause.
