WORLD ECONOMIC CONFERENCE

SEQUEL TO BRITISH TALKS WITH U.S.A. PROBLEM OF “HAVES” AND “HAVE-NOTS” LONDON, May 17. A world conference on economic problems, including access _to raw materials, involving the colonial question, is expected to follow the AngloAmerican trade negotiations. It is believed that the United States is initiating the conference, strongly supported by Britain. The main purpose will be adjustment of the differences of the “Haves” and the “Havenots,” aiming at the removal of economic causes of international friction. It is expected that there will be a possibility of discussing the. problem of the richer and poorer nations, also an attempt to remove tariff barriers and currency restrictions. FOREIGN INDEBTEDNESS OF AUSTRIA TOPIC FOR ANGLO-GERMAN •• TALKS LONDON, May 16. The Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs (Mr R. A. Butler) in the House of Commons said that Germany had agreed to Austrian foreign indebtedness being included inj the Anglo-German talks, which begin on May 24. Mr Butler said Britain considered that Germany should negotiate . the Austrian loans on an international basis, providing for the payment of all issues. Sir Frederick Leith-Ross, chief economic adviser to the British Government, has arrived in Rome to consult the Minister of Finance about the Austrian loan, in which Italy participated.
