PASSION PLAY FOR PARIS

LOCAL CARPENTER IN ROLE OF CHRIST PARIS, April 10. Workmen of Menilmontant, a district of Paris, are reproducing a Passion Play, and the role of Christ is taken by the local carpenter. The High Priest is a metal worker, St. Peter works at a lathe, and Joseph of Aramethea drives a delivery motor-van. They are helped by 70 other performers, all workpeople of the neighbourhood. The costumes have been sewn by young girls and women in their spare time, and the scenery made and painted by local talent. The Passion Play is in seven acts, and is performed every Sunday afternoon. All the words used are taken from the Bible. The choir providing the musical accompaniment is none other than the famous Petits Chanteurs a la Croix de Bois, which has sung in many parts of Europe and America. Proceeds of the sale of tickets are devoted to local charity.
