TOWN CLERK AT LOSS
ivitn VJLjJCjiviv ni uuuu UNABLE TO TRANSLATE LETTER IN HEBREW SHEPPARTON (Victoria) April 12. A letter written in foreign characters and addressed to “The President Sheperdon, Victoria, Melbourne,” was received by the Shepparton Borough Council last night. The town clerk (Mr R., West) said that /he signature appeared to be “B. Aconades,” and the address “21, Holloway. road, Wellington, New Zealand.” “The characters are either Greek or Arabic, feut it’s all Greek to me,” Mr West added. The council formally received the letter, and directed that a translation be obtained. Later it was discovered that the letter was written in Hebrew, and that it was an application for the position of a kosher butcher.
