DOG TRIALS AT DIPTON

TWO EVENTS DECIDED YESTERDAY MR E. McLEOD HAS FIRST AND SECOND The weather was fine at the start of the second day of the Dipton dog trials yesterday, but rain set in during the afternoon and conditions were very unpleasant. The all comers and short pull and yard events were completed and a start was made on the maiden huntaway. A sheep-guessing competition was won by Miss Isla Gerrard. The correct weight was 981 b and her guess was 9731 b. Results are as follows: — ALL COMERS EVENT. First £7 and cup donated by Messrs John Burgess, P. Hogg and W. Nevin, to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals, second £4, third £3, fourth £l. Heading, bringing back and holding in ring, 600 yards; time, 12 minutes. Hemp hunted on the right, ran out on a good line, headed, but failed to stop at the head, and made a good but slow pull off the hill. He was slightly slow crossing the gully but made a good pull across the flat. The ring work was very fair. Jed hunted on the right, ran out on a good line across the flat and on a good line on the hill. He moved the sheep before stopping at the head and let sheep off the line a bit on the hill. His work at the ring was good. Fly hunted on the right, ran out wide on the flat and stopped once. She stopped on the hill and set the sheep before heading. She started to pull quietly but let the sheep off the line at the foot of the hill. There was a slight split at the gully and a good pull across the flat Coming to the ring the dog let the sheep slightly off the line. The work at the ring was fair. Nell hunted on the right and ran on a fair line over the flat. She came in on a cast on the hill, stopped and made a very fair head. She let the sheep drift in starting to pull, but made a very fair pull off the hill. The dog was slightly out of position on the flat. Her work at the ring was very good. SHORT PULL AND YARD. Heading, bringing back, holding in ring, driving to yard and yarding; 400 yards; time, 10 minutes. First £4, second £2, third £l. He moved the sheep before heading and failed to stop at the head. He made a good pull off the hill, but let the sheep slightly off the line after crossing the gully. A very fair pull to the ring was made with a good hold in the ring. He made a very fair drive to the yard, the work at the yard being good. The dog yarded. Hemp hunted on the right and came in on a cast at the foot of the hill. He was cast out again and made a very fair head. A very fair pull off the hill was also made, but he let the sheep slightly off the line at the foot of the hill. A good pull was made across the flat. The dog had a good hold in the ring and made a very fair drive to the yard, where his work was very fair. He also yarded. Lass hunted on the right and ran out on a good line to the top of the hill. The dog went to the yard, came back and headed. She let the sheep off the line when pulling off the hill. A fair pull across the flat was made, also a fair hold in the ring. She made a very fair drive to the yard. Her work at the yard was fair and she yarded.
