RIVERTON

WOMEN’S DIVISION The monthly meeting of the Riverton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in Fleck’s hall. Miss A. McNaughton presided over a fair attendance. It was decided that the next meeting should take the form of a bring and buy sale. It was stated that competitions for oven, date and girdle scones, pikelets, shortbread, seed cake and butter sponge would be held and also for something new made out of something old. A dehionstration on the making of wood pulp flowers was given by Mrs Chapman, of Invercargill. The bloom competition resulted as follows:—Miss Wilkinson 1, Mrs Helm 2, Mrs Ward and Mrs Smyth 3 eq. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Trail, Brown, Martin and Castle. BADMINTON A mixed A and B team from the Rivetton Badminton Club played Wallacetown in a non-competition return match in the Empire Theatre. The game resulted in a win for Riverton by eight matches to four. The results are as follows, with Riverton names mentioned first:— Men’s Doubles.—J. J. Banks and D. C. Matheson beat H. King and W. Scott 21-12, 21-13; R. K McNeil and A. F. McFadgen lost to F. Parkinson and D. Batt, 17-21, 21-9, 10-21; F. Craig and G. MacDougall beat J. Buick and B. McDowall, 21-13, 21-19. Women’s Doubles.—Miss P. MacDougall and Mrs R. K. McNeil beat Misses Scott and Townsend, 15-10,15-9; Mrs G. Keeler and Miss C. Hancock lost to Mrs Taylor and Miss Nelson, 10-15, 9-15; Misses P. Bailey and I. MacDougall beat Miss Rhind and Miss Jenkins, 15-10, 15-8. Combined Doubles.—J. J. Banks and Miss P. MacDougall beat H. King and Miss J. Scott, 21-10, 21-4; D. C. Matheson and Miss P. Bailey lost to W. Scott and Miss N. Townsend, 11-21, 3-21; R. K. McNeil and Mrs McNeil lost to F. Parkinson and Mrs Taylor, 17-21, 17-21; A. McFadgen and Mrs G. Keeler beat D. Batt and Miss A.
