Miss Eve Curtis, Queenstown, leaves today to spend the winter in Australia. Miss Betty Macdonald, Avenal, is the guest of Mrs R. T. Stewart, Otautau. Mr and Mrs H. Dennis, Dacre, have returned from a short visit to Dunedin. Mr and Mrs W. Crengle and Mr D. Macnicol, Dacre, left yesterday to spend a few days in Queenstown. , Mr and Mrs T. Cuthbert, Dunedin, and Mr and Mrs W. Scully, Wyndham, have been the guests of Mr and Mrs P. Scully, Dacre. Mrs J. L. Hazlett, Gretna Green, Oreti, was hostess at mah jongg. yesterday afternoon in honour of Miss Lois Douglas, Don street, who is to be married next Tuesday. Miss Gertrude Macdonald, Gretna Green, has returned from a short visit to Dunedin, and is staying with Mrs W. L. Cunningham, . Castle Downs, Dipton. Mr and Mrs Clousen and the Misses A and J. Clousen, Loch Sei,' accompanied by Mr and Mrs O. Maxted, of Invercargill, motored to Te Anau and Manapouri last week-end. Mrs A. F. Speight, Redcliff, Mrs W. L. Cunningham, Castle Downs, and Mrs E. C. Tapley, Conisborough, .Duke street, leave today for a brief visit to Ranfurly. Mrs Tapley, who is at present the guest of Mrs Speight, will return to town on Friday. Mr and Mrs J. M. Sinclair entertained a number of their friends at a dance in the Mabel Bush Hall recently. Music was supplied by Messrs A. Yeo, V. Sinclair and J. Campbell. Mr A. O.

Fleming acted as master of ceremonies. Mr Fleming, on behalf of the guests thanked Mr and Mrs Sinclair for their hospitality and wished them good luck in their married life. The Play Reading Circle of the Southland Women’s Club presented “The Rivals,” by R. Brinsley Sheridan, to a big audience last evening. The cast was as follows:—Sir Anthony Absolute, Mrs K.
