LICENSING OF CINEMA OPERATORS

DESIRE TO SECURE IMPROVEMENT IN TRAINING

(United Press Association)

WELLINGTON, March 17.

Regulations making provision for the licensing of cinematograph operators are gazetted tonight. The licences range from A grade for operators in cities and towns who are engaged six nights a week to D grade licences for assistant operators.

They provide for a general improvement in training, for the setting up of a board to issue licences and set examinations for a general improvement in technique and for greater public safety. It is hoped that the regulations will also result in the minimizing of the wear and tear of films.

The regulations, which stipulate that breaches of good conduct by operators may cost them their licences, come into force on June 1.
