THE WEATHER CLOUDY, WARM AND HAZY
(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, March 17. Following is the official weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong north-east to northerly winds. Weather cloudy, warm and hazy, with scattered rains. Seas moderate, but rising. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather mainly cloudy to overcast, warm and hazy. Some rain probable on the west coast of the South Island and scattered places elsewhere. General Situation.—An intense anticyclone is now centred north of the Chatham Islands and the pressure is falling slightly over the Dominion. Winds.—Light to moderate north-east to northerly, freshening somewhat about and south of Cook Strait. Seas.—New Zealand waters, slight to moderate generally, but with considerable swell on the west coast of the South Island, later seas rising somewhat about Cook and Foveaux Straits; eastern Tasman Sea, moderate to strong northerly winds, rather rough to rough seas.
The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine and warm. The sun shone brightly throughout the day and there was a light breeze from the south-west. At one o’clock this morning the weather was warm and mild, and there was no wind. The barometer readings for the last three mornings are as follows:— This morning (falling) 29.82 in. Thursday 30.01 in Wednesday 30.06 in.
