CANDIDATE FOR HUTT SEAT
MR ANDREWS TO STAND FOR NATIONAL PARTY
OPPONENT FOR MINISTER OF FINANCE

WELLINGTON, March 16.
Mr J. W. Andrews, Mayor of Lower Hutt, announced his candidature today as a Nationalist for the Hutt seat at present occupied by the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) at the coming parliamentary elections. He. has had a distinguished record of civic, commercial and war service and his acceptance of the candidature, though he is not a member of the National Party, is considered an event of political importance. Last week an influential deputation of men representing all parts of the electorate sought Mr Andrews s candidature and this afternoon he was waited on by a deputation of women. NATIONAL CANDIDATE FOR NAPIER MR JOHN D. ORMOND, JUN., CHOSEN (United Press Association) HASTINGS, March 16. Mr John D. Ormond, jun., has been chosen as the National Party s candidate for the Napier seat at the Sendai election, subject to the approval of the Dominion Executive of the party. MAORI LABOUR CANDIDATE (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 16. The national executive of the Labour Party has endorsed the selection of the following sitting members as Labour candidates at the general election for the electorates named: — Mr E. T. Tirikatene, M.P., Southern Maori. ' ' . Mr H. T. Ratana, M.P., Western Maori.
