GIRLS’ TENNIS TEAM RETURNS
COMPETITION IN N.S.W. CHAMPIONSHIPS
(United Press Association)
AUCKLAND, March 16. “The best lot we have sent over; the results far exceeded expectations,” said Mr George Gore, manager of the New Zealand girls’ team which was sent to Australia by the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association to compete in the New South Wales “age championships. With the exception of Miss Kathleen Armstrong, of Christchurch, who is spending a holiday with her parents, all the players returned by the Awatea. Mr Gore said that each player had distinguished herself, and the comment that they were the best ever sent over was the opinion of Australian critics. Mr Gore said that W. Sidwell, the Australian boy who, with Miss Pam Cooke, won the mixed doubles, was the outstanding player of the tournament, vanquishing everything before him. He was regarded as the coming hope of Australia in Davis Cup matches.
