STANLEY McKAY’S GAIETIES

FAREWELL PERFORMANCE TONIGHT An entirely new production “In Sunny Hawaii” will be presented by Stanley McKay’s Gaieties Company at the Civic Theatre tonight for the farewell performance. Items of special interest to music lovers will be the famous “Trio” (Faust) with Cliff O’Keefe (Mephisto), Winnie Edgerton (Marguerite) and Leo Trenette (Faust), and the spectacular song scena “Hawaii” with those two popular Hawaiians, George and Wehi Greig, playing the Hawaiian national instruments, steel guitars. The climax of this scena is reached when Wehi as “The Princess” descends into the volcano during an eruption. Mr McKay claims that this will be one of the most spectacular scenes presented during' the season.

Joe Lawman and all his clever associates have become deservedly popular and tonight should be one of much enthusiasm. The Gore train is being delayed till 11 o’clock so that visitors may patronize the Gaieties. Attention is drawn to the bargain prices for tonight’s farewell as advertised in another column.

A gala gift matinee will be given at 3.30 this afternoon, when an item of special interest will be the appearance of Joe Lawman as Popeye the Sailor Man. During the afternoon several valuable presents such as tennis rackets, cricket bats, books, dolls, etc, will be given away. Seats may be reserved for the evening performance at Begg’s and day sales at Matheson’s, next to the Civic Theatre.

Last evening the Civic Theatre was filled with a warmly appreciative audience. The revue, “Indian Romance,” the second of the series to be presented in Invercargill, provided extremely bright entertainment, scene following scene with surprising rapidity.
