HEAVY COST OF WAR TO JAPAN

SUPPLEMENTARY NAVY AND ARMY BUDGET TOKYO, February 17. The Finance Ministry has fixed the supplementary Army and Navy Budget at £282,000,000. According to the newspaper Asahi Shimbun the expenditure on the China campaign to March 31 is estimated at £149,000,000 and it is calculated that it will be increased to £432,000,000 by March 31, 1939. It is being financed by bonds totalling £257,000,000 and also' by increased taxation. The Tokyo correspondent or ine Times says that with the addition of the supplementary Budget the expenditure on the Chinese campaign exceeds the entire national debt in 1932. Only one-third of the total has yet been raised.
