STRONG CRITICISM OF FAIR RENTS ACT

AMENDMENT TO BE SUGGESTED TO MINISTER (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 17. The Fair Rents Act was roundly condemned at a meeting of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce this morning by the chairman (Mr W. R. Fee). “I think it is one of the most detrimental enactments to local progress ever placed on the Statute Book,” he said. It was decided to ask the Associated Chambers to request the Minister of Justice (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason) to bring down an amendment to the Act, allowing landlords to obtain possession of their houses in the event of the properties being required for rebuilding purposes.
