GIRL PILOT MISSING OFF NEW GUINEA
SYDNEY AVIATORS SEARCHING (Received February 17, 8.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 17. Advice has been received from New Guinea that Miss Barbara Hitchins, a Sydney airwoman, is missing between Karema and Wau, and several aviators, including Mr Ray Parer, are now searching. Miss Hitchins flew from Sydney to New Guinea a few weeks ago. She took off from Karema, which is 200 miles north-west of Port Moresby, on Tuesday, since when she has not been renorted.
