MAKING NEW ZEALAND TAX-FREE
To The Editor Sir, —During the reign of the ForbesCoates Government Mr G. W. Forbes issued an invitation to the best brains in the country to come forward with a national plan that would solve all our problems. Later Mr H. M. Rushworth gave an address in our Town Hall and told Lis that the man who will come forward with a national plan that will solve our problems will be the most welcome man in New Zealand. I do not claim the best brains or want the welcome, but I want to see, and help to make, New Zealand the first tax-free country in the British Empire. I am not a Yankee, but I have been guessing and calculating and I guess and calculate that by putting forward a Country Party composed of Mr G. W. Forbes apd Mr H. M. Rushworth as its instigators and 74 independent members (all New Zealanders) free to vote for or against every measure that is brought forward, we will have the new government that Mr Adam Hamilton tells us we need, And I guess and calculate that by “monetizing” the people as the basis of their currency, it can: 1. Create £100,000,000 free internal working capital based on sterling controlled by goods and services, and circulated through a national account in the Commonwealth Bank. 2. Release £50,000,000 free purchasing power without credit to put all the manufactured material in shops and factories into the homes of the people and set the wheels of industry full steam ahead to fill them up again. 3. Abolish rates, taxation, unemployment and put every man on full time work and full pay. 4. Reduce the cost of administration and control the cost of living. 5. Stop speculating and profiteering in land; cut out all the fixed charges the fanner has to pay and give him a clear title to his land and full use of all his own capital. 6. Finance and develop all our industries and leave every undertaking an asset free of liability. 7. Give every youth a start in life and the aged and infirm independence. 8. Double, treble, quadruple and quintuple our population by the shortest and cheapest route. 9. Make every home a health camp for 52 weeks every year and cater for everybody from the cradle to the grave. Is there a more lasting memorial we could build to the memory of our late King George V or could we better celebrate the Coronation of our present King George VI than by making New Zealand the first tax-free Dominion in the British Empire.—Yours, etc., SPERO MELIORA. February 16, 1938.
