WOMEN’S DIVISION

HEDGEHOPE BRANCH The Hedgehope branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its monthly meeting in the Hedgehope hall. Mrs Young presided over a fair attendance of members. Mrs ;C. Coster, who was recently married was presented with a brass vase. The competitions resulted as follows: Jar of raspberry jam: Miss Isabel Jukes 1, Mrs Jukes 2, Mrs Young 3. Best bloom: Mrs Young 1.. The roll call was “A good jam-making hint.” MOKOTUA BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Mokotua Branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Mokotua Tennis Club’s pavilion. Mrs Munro presided. A motion of sympathy was passed with the Robinsori and O’Driscoll families in their recent bereavements. A talk on her trip was given by Mrs Birch. The best bloom competition was won by Mrs Gordon, Miss P. Birch being second. , The hostesses for next meeting will be Mrs Munro and Miss Munro. OTAUTAU BRANCH At the monthly meeting of the Otautau branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Mrs Smellie presided. _ , , An invitation to the South Hillend branch’s birthday party on February 23 was received and accepted. Arrangements were made for a meeting in the supper room on February 24, when Mrs Drake is to give an address on the Women’s Division. It was decided to extend an invitation to all branches to be present and to arrange for musical items. Mrs T. H. Cuppies gave a talk on what she saw of the North Island Maoris and on Maori singing. Miss Eason gave a demonstration of candlewick bedspread making. A presentation was made to Mrs J. Evans, of Scott’s Gap, who was the first president of the branch, and is leaving shortly for England. The competitions resulted as follows: Single bloom: Mrs D. Mitchell 1, Mrs G. R. McMillan 2 and 3. Vase of flowers: Miss C. Eason 1, Mrs A. Chilton 2, Mrs F. C. Chilton 3. ■ The hostesses were Mesdames Officer, R. Hishon, W. Weir, F. Hamlyn, G. Low and McDonald.
