AMOUNT OF £165,000 FOR LECTURESHIPS
APPRECIATION OF ACTION OF LORD NUFFIELD (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, January 14. Keen appreciation of the action of Viscount Nuffield in giving funds to provide lectureships in medicine at Oxford was expressed by the Senate of the University of New Zealand at its session today. The lectureships related to South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, the Vice-Chancellor (Professor T. A. Hunter) told the Senate. Professor Hunter added that the substance of the conditions had appeared in the Press. It meant that in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand there would be one lectureship on the scientific side and one on the clinical side. The sum of £165,000 had been given by Viscount Nuffield for this purpose. There would be three demonstratorships and three clinical assistanceships. The emolument for an unmarried man or woman was £4OO a year and for a married man £6OO a year, together with a travelling allowance.
A resolution was passed that the Senate express its high appreciation of the action of Viscount Nuffield.
