His Honour Mr Justice Kennedy and Mrs Kennedy, Dunedin, are spending a holiday at Queenstown. Mr and Mrs Richard Evatt.and their children leave today to live in Christchurch.

Mrs Hazeldine, Ohai, has returned from a holiday in Whangarei and Auckland.

Miss Connie Bain and Miss Enid Hogg, Dunedin, are the guests of Miss Rita Sanders, Riverside, Alexandra.

Miss Belle Baynes, Edendale, has returned from a visit to Mrs C. Williams, Clifton.

Mrs P. Kean, Centre Bush, has returned from a holiday in the north. She was accompanied by Miss Nanette Muir, who is her guest. Mrs W. Taylor, Herbert street, accompanied by two of her children, returned by the express last evening after spending a holiday in Timaru. Miss E. Talbot, Tay street, leaves on Saturday for Wellington. She will sail by the Wanganella next Thursday for Sydney, where she joins the Orford for Great Britain.

Miss N. Undrill, of Christchurch, is spending a holiday with Miss O. Wallace, Ythan street, the -latter having returned from a holiday in Christchurch.

Mrs Messent and Miss Messent, Kent House, Middlemarch, and Mr and Mrs D. Dailey, of Oamaru, have returned

home after being the guests of Mrs John Hood, Koronui, Balfour. Mr and Mrs Harry Green, Christchurch, and their children left by car at the beginning of the week to continue their camping holiday after being the guests of Mrs John Hood, Koronui, Balfour. Miss N. McCoombe, of Wellington, who has been spending a short holiday with friends in Morton street left by the express yesterday for Dunedin, where she will spend a few days before returning to Wellington.

A pleasant function took place on the Southend Croquet Club lawn on Wednesday, when members gathered to have afternoon tea with Mrs S. E. Wooton, a member who is leaving shortly for a holiday in England. Mrs R. Brownlie, vice-president, in presenting the guest of honour with a small gift and bouquet wished her a happy holiday. Later members enjoyed competitions, the following being prizewinners:—Ladder, Mrs J. Thomson; French, Mrs F. Stone; golf, Mrs E. V. McKeever.

GIFT EVENING

FUNCTION AT ORETI The Oreti Hall was filled on Tuesday evening, when the residents of the district gave a gift evening for Miss Isobel Cowan, whose marriage to Mr Colin McLean takes place shortly. Music was supplied by Mrs W. G. Woods and Messrs D. Brown and W. Bailey. Mr J. Deegan acted as master of ceremonies.

DANCE AT LIMEHILLS On their return from their honeymoon, Mr and Mrs J. Hammond entertained a big number of friends at a dance in the Limehills Hall on a recent evening. Music was supplied by Miss N. WEDDING

TRAPSKI—BROWN The marriage was solemnized recently in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Queenstown, of Ellie May, fourth daughter of Mrs A. Brown and the late Mr Brown of Islay Farm, Lower Shotover, and Charles John, youngest son of Mr F. Trapski of Pukerau. The Rev. D. K. Boyd, performed the ceremony while Miss J. Moffat was organiste. The bride, who entered the church with her brother, Mr Eoin Brown, wore a frock of cream lace with cream satin godets. Her tulle veil had been lent by a friend and she carried a beautiful sheaf of regalia lilies and maidenhair fern tied with cream satin streamers affixed to which was a lucky horseshoe. . , , , ~ Miss Anne Brown, sister of the bride, who was bridesmaid, wore a lemon lace frock with gold and brown velvet spray. Her hat was of brown chip straw with lemon and gold trimmings. She wore brown velvet sandals and carried a posy of gold nasturtiums and rosebuds. The best man was Mr L. Mackenzie, of' Pukerau and Mr R. Brown, the bride’s brother was usher. After the ceremony a reception was held at Islay Farm where Mrs Brown and Mrs Puller, sister of the bridegroom, received the guests. Mrs Brown wore a dull satin ensemble in Lido blue with a navy straw hat. She also wore a shoulder spray of blue delphiniums and sweet peas. Mrs Puller had on a navy blue model frock with pleated yoke and sleeves and gold trimmings at the neck and a navy hat with gold roses. Several musical items were given by Mr O. McLeay while Mr Mackenzie sang a solo. For travelling the bride chose a model frock of Wallis blue with a navy straw hat. She had accessories to match. Mr and Mrs C. J. Trapski’s future home will be in Pukerau. Several gift evenings were given the bride before her wedding. The Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union entertained her while the residents of Lower Shotover presented her with a dinner set and a toilet set.

WYNDHAM Mr and Mrs W. L. Stewart, Ferry street, have left for a motoring dayMiss Betty McLaren, Camphill, has returned from a short visit in Invercargill as the guest of Miss Jean de la Mare.

The Rev. and Mrs F. C. Lawrence, The Vicarage, Ferry street, are spending three weeks’ holiday at Timaru. Mr and Mrs G. M. Gardiner, of Green Island, were New Year visitors to Mr and Mrs W. Thompson, Alma street.

Mr and Mrs A. Ferguson, The Schoolhouse, South Wyndham, have returned from a holiday with Mr and Mrs Renowden, Otautau. Mrs D. N. A. Macpherson, Alma street, is the guest of her daughter. Mrs A. P. Stewart, St. Kilda, Dunedin. Mr and Mrs Leslie Ford, of Westport, were visitors to Wyndham during the holidays, as the guests of Mr and Mrs W. Horne, Florence street. Miss Peggy Cook, of Dunedin, and Miss Cathie McLellan, of Port Chalmers, have returned home after spending a short holiday with Mr and Mrs W. Thompson, Alma street. Mr and Mrs R. S. Johnstone, who will leave shortly for the Chatham Islands, where Mr Johnstone has secured a new teaching appointment, spent a few days with Mr and Mrs W. H. Johnstone, Redan street, recently. After a week’s holiday at the Rocks, Riverton, Mr and Mrs W. G. Bulling, Menzies Ferry, have returned home. Mr and Mrs A. N. Macdonald, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs W. H. Johnstone, have returned home. Miss Zita Traynor, Cardigan road, is spending a week’s holiday in Dunedin. Mr and Mrs H. P. Bryant, of Seaward Downs, are on a motoring tour of Southland and Otago. Mr and Mrs George Marsh, of Auckland, are the guests of Mr W. J. Marsh and Miss L. A. Marsh, Balaclava street. In the course of a motor tour through Southland, Mr and Mrs E. D. Farrant, of Middlemarch, Central Otago, made a short stay in Wyndham as the guests of Mr and Mrs John Greenlees. Visitors of Mr and Mrs T. P. Rabbidge, Cardigan road, during the holidays were Mrs A. Butt, Invercargill, Mrs Edward Rabbidge, Wellington, Mr Anthony Rowlands, of Wellington, and his mother and son, and Miss A. Bain, of Dimedin.

TUATAPERE

Mr and Mrs J. Kilkelly are visiting Tuatapere for a short holiday. Mr and Mrs J. A. Horrell are on a camping tour in Canterbury. Mrs E. Adams and family, Port Chalmers, are the guests of the former’s sister, Mrs G. Horrell, Te Tua. Mr and Mrs Skipworth are on a motor tour of the South Island.

Miss M. Gardner, Invercargill, is the guest of Mrs R. Gardner, Clifden. Dr and Mrs F. M. Dodds and their two daughters have returned from a holiday in Nelson and the North Island.

Mrs Everett spent the holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs G. Densley. Mrs H. Clayton, Bluff, is the guest of her parents, Mr and Mrs W. Sherriff sen.

Mr and Mrs G. Perrin and family have left Papatotara to live in the North Island. Mr and Mrs J. Frew, sen., have returned from a holiday spent in Timaru. Mr and Mrs C. F. Bruce and their children have left on a camping holiday. Miss Betty Greig, Invercargill, is the guest of Mrs J. King. Mr and Mrs G. Smith, Nelson, visited Tuatapere during the holidays. Mrs G. Smith, sen., Invercargill, is spending a holiday with her daughter, Mrs W. Mclntosh. Mr and Mrs J. Gorton, Gorge Road, spent a few days in Tuatapere recently.

BROWNS

Miss Irene Gray is spending a holiday at the Rocks as the guest of Miss F. McGillivray. Miss Dulcie Anderson has returned home after spending a week with her sister, Mrs A. D. Campbell, Heriot. Mr and Mrs I. C. Millar and their small daughter, Killinchy, are spending the holidays with Mr and Mrs J. N. West. Miss Jean White is visiting her aunt, Mrs Tuffery, Tuatapere. Mrs A. D. Campbell, Heriot, is at present relieving postmistress at Browns in the absence of Miss E.

Butcher, who is Visiting Australia. Mr and Mrs T. Butcher and family have (returned from a holiday at Ermedale.

Miss Bessie Lambie was the guest of Miss Iris Smith, Orepuki, for the New Year holidays.

Mrs Vallance has returned to Dunedin after being the guest of Mrs J. Lambie.

Miss Leila McKerchar, Tuatapere, is visiting her sister, Mrs J. W. Silke. Mr and Mrs W. Glover have returned to Athol after spending the holidays with Mr and Mrs C. W. Eggleton.

Miss Valerie Rodden, Invercargill, is spending a holiday with Mrs R. Pettigrew, Browns. Miss Marjorie Mell wrick is at present visiting Stewart Island. Mr and Mrs J. W. Paterson are touring through Central Otago and Canterbury. Miss Freda Dixon, Lilburn, spent the Christmas and New Year holidays with Mrs D. Irwin.

Miss M. Speedy, Dargaville, is the guest of Mrs R. H. Irwin. Mrs Tuffery has returned to Tuatapere after being the guest of Mrs R. White.

Mrs T. Finn has returned after spending a holiday in Invercargill. Miss Alison Vallance, Dunedin, is at present the guest of Miss B. Lambie. _ Mr and Mrs F. J. Ashley were visitors to Riverton for the centenary celebrations.
