DOGS ON TRAIL OF ARAB MURDERERS

VILLAGER ARRESTED BY POLICE (Received January 12, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, January 11. The Jerusalem correspondent of The Daily Telegraph states that a pursuit by police dogs from the scene of the murder of Mr J. L. Starkey, the British archaeologist, led to the arrest of a villager at Kharas whose home contained a revolver and ammunition. Recently sabotage and shooting broke out in the neighbourhood of Hebron, resulting in 40 supernumerary police being sent to the city. The authorities attempt to collect £2700 for their upkeep resulted in a strike last week, after which some of the inhabitants abandoned the city and formed roving bands, of which Mr Starkey is believed to be a victim.
