THE WEATHER FAIR TO FINE AND WARM
(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, January 12. Following is the official weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington;— North-westerly winds, light to moderate, but increasing. Weather fair to fine and warm. Seas slight
to moderate. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather fair to fine generally, cool
tonight, but with warm day tern-
peratures. General Situation.—An intense anticyclone now covers the Tasman Sea and New Zealand. A depression, however, is moving on to south-eastern Australia and pressure also is rather low over the South Pacific islands area. Winds.—Light to moderate and variable, with southerly predominating at first, but a change to northerlies setting in tomorrow about and south of Cook Strait.
Seas.—New Zealand waters, slight to moderate; eastern Tasman Sea, easterly winds in the northern portion, variable in central and southern portions, soon tending northerly, force light to moderate, with slight to moderate seas, later wind and sea rising somewhat in the southern portion.
The weather in Invercargill yesterday was warm and fine. The sun shone brightly for the greater part of the day and there was little wind. At one o’clock this morning the weather was calm and fine. The barometer readings for the last three mornings are as follows:— This morning (rising) 30.04 in. Wednesday 29.99 in. Tuesday 29.66 in.
