KING’S WARRIOR’S CHANCE

Auckland Trotting Cup PROSPECTS FOR TODAY The Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting will open today and continue over Thursday and Friday. A meeting or the Australian champion, Lawn Derby, with Indianapolis and Lucky Jack promises to be one of the features of the day’s racing. , The Auckland Cup of £l5OO will be the star item of today’s meeting. The fact that it is a 4.25 two mile is of great interest as this is the tightest limit of any race ever run over the distance. F. J. Smith’s pair King’s Warrior and Bonny Azure will go out as firm favourites. King’s Warrior is one of the best stayers in commission and would have played a big part in the finish of the New Zealand Cup but for meeting with trouble with five furlongs to go. He has not had a race since Cup day but should lack nothing on the score of condition. Bonny Azure is a good second string. She collected both lap prizes in the New Zealand Cup and then finished close up. She appeared to prejudice a good winning Cup chance by being bent on winning the lap prizes. The New Zealand Cup winner Lucky Jack is a dyed-in-the-wool and- if today’s race is a truly run one he will again be seen to advantage. Indianapolis will strip much more forward than he did last month while his work at Epsom during the week has impressed the critics. De Soto will be an absentee. Willow Wave’s form during a period does not suggest that he will be one of the favourites although he has only to behave correctly to be heard from. The appearance of Lawn Derby will be a great attraction but it may be too much to expect him to show up as he has had little racing over two miles. Support will come for the following:—
