CENTAURUS ARRIVES AT AUCKLAND
Flying-Boat Greeted By Huge Crowd Of Spectators HARBOUR BATHED IN BRILLIANT SUNSHINE (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 27. With the waterfront bathed in brilliant sunshine, the crowd assembled to see the arrival of the Imperial Airways flying-boat Centaurus this afternoon greatly exceeded that assembled on Sunday afternoon, when the Samoa Clipper arrived at Auckland. Hundreds of cars lined Waterfront road and the vacant area adjacent to the Pan-Ameri-can Airways base in Mechanics’ Bay also held its quota of vehicles long before the flying-boat was due to arrive. Cars pulled in this morning, but few stayed more than a few minutes. From about one o clock on, however, thousands arrived by trams, cars and taxis from all parts of the city and suburbs. A seemingly endless stream of pedestrians flowed along Waterfront road and special buses did a brisk trade. Vantage points on Campbell’s Point, Point Resolution and Gladstone road were crowded early in the afternoon and all along the reclaimed area from the eastern tide deflector to the vehicular ferry landing spectators were lined four and six deep.
