MILITARY SECRETARY FOR WAR

MAJOR-GENERAL BROWNRIGG APPOINTED (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, December 25. The War Office announces that Major-General W. D. S. Brownrigg has been appointed Military Secretary for War. Major-General Brownrigg, who was A.D.C. to King George V in 1933 and 1934, has since 1935 been Commander of the 51st (Highland) Division of the Territorial Army. He is 51 years of age, and began his military service with the Sherwood Foresters in 1905. He served with the 13th Division in Gallipoli under Lieutenant-General Sir Frederick Shaw, and under Lieutenant-General Sir Stanley Maude in Gallipoli and Mesopotamia from 1915 to 1918, being six times mentioned in despatches. He served for some time on headquarters staff in the China Command, and in the North China Command.
