RICCARTON HORSES IN FAVOUR TWO-YEAR-OLDS TO CLASH IN FOAL STAKES The Auckland Racing Club’s meeting opens today and extends over Wednesday, and January 1 and 3. The Auckland Cup, the Railway Handicap and the Great Northern Foal Stakes are the principal features and usually attract widespread interest. The Canterbury contingent for Ellerslie js a particularly strong one, especially in the cup, in which Wild Chase, Cerne Abbas and Argentic are the ruling favourites. The North Island . contingent is much stronger in the Railway Handicap, however, although Paper Slipper promises to play a big part. The Great Northern Foal Stakes will more than likely settle the much discussed two-year-old ranking, when alf the best of that age will meet.
