TROTTING AT GORE
Excellent Racing Promised FIELDS AND PROSPECTS FOR TODAY There is every indication that the Gore Trotting Club’s meeting today will be an outstanding success. The fields are well up to the best standards of recent years and with a number of Canterbury horses engaged, added interest will be attached to the meeting. There has always been a tendency to prefer northern horses to local representatives, but over a period of years honours have been fairly evenly divided.
The fields for today already have been discussed and there is little to warrant a change in the opinions already expressed. There are several horses who stand out in their respective classes if recent form—and it is usually the best guide—can be accepted. Because of the Winton meeting on Wednesday there will be good reason for placing a high value on form as shown today. The track is reported to be m splendid order and there is every promise of an excellent day’s sport. The first race will start at 12.30 p.m. and the win and place system of betting will operate. Special passenger trains will leave Invercargill at 9.15 and 10.25 o’clock. The following horses can be expected to race prominently:— CROYDON HANDICAP: Halesia, Blue Logan, Appomatox. TRIAL HANDICAP: Iron Duke, Hoyle, Gold Streak. GORE TROTTING CUP: Donald Dhu, Dark Hazard, Frisco Silk. E. A. PIGEON MEMORIAL HANDICAP: Irish Aggie-Rollalong bracket, Grand Meteor-Royal Guy bracket.
