FLOCK SHEEP COVERED IN OAMARU DISTRICT

MAKERS WORKING ON MANY ORDERS (United Press Association) OAMARU, December 21. A Press Association message from Wellington printed yesterday referred to the covering of flock sheep in Australia, inferring that the practice was not usual in New Zealand. It is not uncommon in the Oamaru district. In fact one maker at the moment is filling an order for 500 covers and this is only one of many. These covers are for flock and not stud sheep.

A message printed yesterday stated:—A statement that he was impressed by the practice in Australia of rugging sheep was made by Mr George Davidson, jun., of G. P. H. Davidson and Company, the Wellington wool-broking firm, who has just returned from a visit to Australia. For many years stud sheep had been rugged in Australia, he said, but it was only during the last two years or so that practical experiments had been made with flock sheep, and these had proved very successful. In his opinion New Zealand should follow closely what was being done in Australia in rugging sheep. There appeared to be sound economic reasons for it.
