STEWART ISLAND
GIRL GUIDE TROOP CAMP ON RECREATION PARK The Southland Girls’ High School troop of girl guides, under Miss J. Cummings and Miss Sutton, is in camp on the recreation park. The weather has been fine and the work of the camp has proceeded without interruption. A day launch trip was made to the island of Ulva in Paterson Inlet. Stewart Island is feeling the effects of the continued dry weather. Gardens are in need of rain and in many cases tanks are getting low. On several occasions lately the skies have looked threatening, but only a few isolated showers have fallen. SEAMEN’S UNION At a meeting of the Seamen’s Union Mr W. Bailey presided. Relief in January and the price of fish for the coming year were discussed. The question of the price of fish was held over for further discussion after a meeting with the fish merchants on January 6.
