GARRISON AT SIERRA LEONE

COAST DEFENCES TO BE MANNED (British Official Wireless) (Received December 21, 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, December 20. The War Office has announced that Freetown (Sierra Leone) is again to be provided with a regular garrison in peace time to man its coast defences. An advance party recently arrived at Freetown to carry out preparatory work. The coast defence units will consist of British, European and African personnel. By arrangement with the Government of Sierra Leone, the recruiting and training of the African personnel have begun under the aegis of the Sierra Leone Battalion of the Royal West African Frontier Regiment.
