CARROLL’S GOOD WIN AT SYDNEY SYDNEY, December 21. Thirty thousand people tonight witnessed a 10-round contest between the Australian welterweight champion, Jack Carroll and the Italian-American, Izzy Jannazzo, at the Sydney Sports Ground, Carroll gaining a points decision. The contest was not a thrilling one, but there were flashes of real skill and ringcraft, Carrol) won almost every round to the seventh by using both hands to his opponent’s head and dodging dangerous uppercuts in a masterly fashion. The American, who was making his debut, is a loose type of fighter. He was in trouble in the seventh, but repeatedly fell into clinches and fought back briskly in the exchanges. Jannazzo’s best rounds were the eighth and ninth when he inflicted punishment and brought blood from Carroll’s eye. Carroll’s performance is regarded as the best of his career. Efforts are now being made to arrange a match between Carroll and Barney Ross, champion welterweight of the world.
