WYNDHAM CRICKET

A friendly match was played recently between the Wyndham junior cricket team and a side representing the Wyndham dairy factory staff. The factory staff batted first and compiled 72 runs, J. Thompson (23) and H. Mackley (21) being the highest scorers. In its innings, the cricket club scored 107, J. Marshall (33) and J. Maloney (25) retiring unbeaten. STREET STALL The annual street stall held by the members of the Presbyterian Girls’ Auxiliary proved very successful, business being brisk all day. The net proceeds amounted to over £l5. Those in charge were Misses H. Strang, J. Winter and M. Crosbie and Mrs W. J. Currie. GIRL GUIDES A meeting of the Wyndham Girl Guides’ executive committee was held recently, Mrs H. Hunter (president) presiding over Mesdames W. O. C. McKay, F. C. Lawrence, C. W. Rout, L. Harper, R. Pauli, J. C. Allison, O. Traynor, D. N. A. Macpherson, E. S. Macfarlane (guide captain) and J. T. Mitchell (Brown Owl) and Miss L. A. Marsh (secretary). The secretary of the Edendale Girl Guides wrote inviting the members of the Wyndham Company to a birthday party. , J J The invitation was accepted and transport arranged. In reply to a letter from the Rev. F. C. Lawrence, inviting the girl guides and brownies to a church parade at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, it was decided to parade on Sunday, December 12, as a fitting termination to the year’s activities. Arrangements for the parade were left in the hands of the captain and the brown owl. Details about the proposed Dominion campfire,” to be held on Saturday, December 11, were contained in a letter from the Dominion secretary. It is to be made an occasion for a contribution of medical comforts for the relief of distress in the Far East. After discussion, it was decided to make that date the break-up of the company for the year. The building of a suitable bonfire was left in the hands of Mr M. C. Rice. It was reported that a garden plot for the guides had been secured and sown with flowers and vegetables under the direction of the captain. The captain stated that lately an effort had been made to tidy the Plunket and rest room grounds, _ with the assistance of Mr A. W. Leitch. Arrangements for attending the Tuturau Maori Raid centenary celebrations were finalized.
