BOROUGH OF SOUTH INVERCARGILL

MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL The monthly meeting of the South Invercargill Borough Council was held last evening. There were present:—The Mayor (Mr Owen Smith) and Councillors O. H. Paton, W. F. Young, C. B. Purdue and W. McChesney. The foreman (Mr J. A. McMillan) submitted a report dealing with the surfacing, road work and ditch cleaning which had been carried out during the month of October. The month of October had been the worst yet experienced for straying cattle, the inspector of nuisances for the borough (Mr L. G. Kelly) stated in his monthly report. Some 30 head of cattle had been dealt with, including five which were impounded. The condition of fences in certain parts of the Borough was no doubt responsible, but a great deal of the trouble came from outside the borough.
