MOTOR-CAR OVERTURNS A motor-car, driven by William Joseph Moylan, aged 20, -of Otahuti, overturned on a back road between Winton and Lochiel at 6 o’clock on Friday evening. The car was found in a ditch at the side of the road by Mr S. J. Irwin, of Invercargill. Moylan, who was the sole occupant of the car, received head injuries and was removed to the Southland hospital for treatment. WOMAN MISSING FROM STEAMER EXPRESS I (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, October 30. An elderly woman, Mrs S. E. Parker, was missing when the steamer express Rangatira berthed from Wellington this morning. A letter found among her luggage gave her address as 89 Waterloo road. She was last seen in a passageway at 2.30 a.m. BOY DROWNED IN LAGOON (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 31. One boy was drowned and another was fortunate to escape with his life when attempting to swim across a deep lagoon in a disused quarry at Port Chevalier. The victim, Owen Miller, aged 16, of Grey Lynn, in company with his brother, Trevor Thomas Miller, aged 14, and his uncle, Leslie Miller, aged 19, got into difficulties, when a short way from the shore. Trevor Thomas Miller turned back and regained the shore. The others continued the swim of about 70 yards to the opposite bank. After a struggle Leslie Miller succeeded but Owen Miller disappeared. MAN FOUND SHOT (United Press Association) OAMARU, October 30. Peter Marshall, single, aged 32 years, was found shot with a .303 rifle alongside him at Maheno this morning. No details are available yet. DROVER DIES FROM INJURIES (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 31. Severe internal injuries which proved fatal three hours later were suffered by Charles Herbert, aged 52, a married drover of Panmure, when he fell from a moving train and under the wheels at the Mercer station on Saturday night. The train was pulling into Mercer when the accident occurred. Herbert, who apparently was about to alight, fell from the carriage platform and rolled under the train.
